About Me
To those who know me and have supported my creative pursuits over the years, a sincere thank you for your continued prodding to revamp this site. To those who may have stumbled upon my corner of perception by chance, a warm welcome to you all.
I seek solace in exploring alternative ways of understanding and visualizing the world around us and how we dwell within it. As such, I tend to spend the crux of my time producing the work rather than carving out the necessary time for explanation and promotion. I simply find that emergence through process takes precedence. This is not to say that I avoid critical discourse; I do encourage input, but would rather that it is initiated from one’s personal reading than through the filter of my own associations. If any of this work speaks to you and you are interested in knowing more, feel free to reach out to me, and I will do my best to follow up.
There are several recurring and evolving themes throughout these explorations over the course of my life, rooted in personal experience, memory, and the subsequent need to derive beauty out of ugliness and chaos. Everyone has a story to tell – some pleasant, some not – but it is through its expression that one strives for the strength to move beyond the solitude of one’s inner voice towards interconnectedness. For me, abstraction is the path that makes this possible, trusting experimentation and process over preconceived conclusions. Phenomenology and juxtaposition of meaning being key: in processing my surroundings, reimagining the interplay between light and dark, shifting scales, the mundane, the extraordinary, the tragic, and the profound, all in an attempt to capture a glimpse of the tangible and intangible.
Admittedly, there is a selfish aspect to my work. I seek to elicit an emotional response from myself first and foremost, to reveal unforeseen meaning beyond that of conditioning. It is my hope, however, that there may be a similar shared experience on the part of the viewer, providing an alternative and ever-changing perspective beyond the norm, especially upon multiple viewings.
Beyond my ongoing artistic work, I am a practicing architect based out of Toronto, Canada, having worked with several award-winning firms on an array of international project typologies and scales throughout my career. Additionally, I was a partner in my own firm, specializing in private residential projects and educational facilities for children’s camps. My strengths are rooted in conceptual and creative problem-solving, developing narratives through process and the translation of such into built form. I have always viewed architecture and art as two sides of the same coin, each providing distinct opportunities for creative expression, as standalone pursuits, as well as influencing the unique dimensions of the other through the interplay of form, light, and shadow.
